Every Inchie Monday -- Cambodia

For the last inchie of the year I have chosen Cambodia as one of the countries we didn't visit during the year. ( The choice was ours this week)
I have drawn the national bird the Giant Ibis, and have sewn the national flower, the Rumdul, Mitrella Mesnyl. It is a tree found in most streets in Cambodia. Not an easy one to sew as it has a high raised centre.

The complete card inches for 2018

Sunday 30 December 2018

A thread sketched poppy on a fabric collage.

After the one I made of mushrooms on the last workshop I went on with Hilary Beattie, I have decided to make some small ones and make a book of them.
This one is of a garden poppy, sewn with free machine embroidery on a fabric collaged background.

Thursday Journal with Neet

My choice this week with the quote "I don't know where you got your opinion from, but I hope you kept the receipt"
My background is distress oxides with several stencils used on top. I stamped and coloured the leaves and coloured the Dylusion figures with watercolour pens.

That's Christmas over for a few days. We are then off to my other daughters for our second Christmas at New Year, this helps share their brother for a few days before he eats me out of house and home.
I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and didn't eat too much, we did.

Every inchie Monday -- Sweden

For the penultimate inchie we are going to Sweden. I have sewn the national flower which is Linner Borealis, the Twin flower.  I have drawn the national animal which is the Elk/Moose

Have a happy Christmas and a healthy happy New Year. I am not sure whether to do next years inches, I will think about it over the next few weeks.

Friday 21 December 2018

Fabric Language of flowers

This is my finished piece of work from my workshop with Hilary Beattie. It's a fabric collage background with thread sketching on top. I know it was called the language of flowers, mine just turned into mushrooms.

Thursday Journal with Neet

Neet's choice this week with "Go jingle your own blimmin bells." As I have been to one of my daughters and the weather was too bad to drive home on Tuesday evening I stayed another night and only came home today (Wednesday). I had been home for half an hour , and we were off to the eldest Grandson's carol service, with supper afterwards. Therefore this was done in a rush, and as it is now midnight I am am off to bed.
Have a super Christmas everyone, and a great New Year.

I am entering this in Art Journal Journey where Elizabeths theme is  'Tis the season'

Every inchie Monday -- Poland

This week we are off to Poland and I have drawn the national bird, the white tailed eagle, which is also a symbol of Poland
I have really struggled with the sewn one as the national flower is the field poppy and the tree the oak. I have already sewn these two and didn't want to do them again. So I have chosen a very common animal in Poland, the wild boar. Not an easy one to portray on an inch and I don't really think it looks much like one, but I did my best.

Thursday 13 December 2018

Thursday Journal with Neet.

I think it was my choice this week with the quote " Caution, mood swing in progress"
My background is distress oxides with a star stencil. The main figure and mushrooms are from Dylusions, and the bird a Tim Holtz one.
I have tried to stick to a fairly simple colour palette for a change, and of course it had to be turquoise and green.
I am also entering this in A Vintage Journey where the theme is Star light star bright. I hope this meets the requirements for this theme.

With Christmas fast approaching I am trying to organise myself. Cards done - yes
All presents bought - Nearly
Food - Gets lots in as my son is coming back from Russia for two weeks and he's bound to be hungry
Christmas over at one daughters and New Year with the other one, so I can share their brother equally. Two Christmases this year without me having to cook one of the big meals. What a change.

Monday 10 December 2018

Every Inchie Monday - Montenegro

Off to Montenegro this week and I have drawn the national flower, the mimosa, and sewn the very popular olive tree. the olive tree has grown there for hundreds of years.

Saturday 8 December 2018

Tag Tuesday - Hearth and Home

For Wilma's theme of House and Home on Tag Tuesday, I have used a window and poinsettia and edge die for the main image and some Christmassy papers and a Christmas tree for the view through the window.
There are two wooden charms at the top. I will probably turn this into a card afterwards.

Thursday Journal with Neet

Neet's choice of quote this week which is "Mostly I sit around all day being fabulous" This was a last minute job as the week seems to have disappeared. This was not helped with a flu jab on Monday morning, a dreadful trip to Derbyshire for lunch straight afterwards with Peter's family, which took twice as long as usual,  due to the awful traffic. Then lunch in a very hot restaurant and a trip to the loo where I passed out. I ended up on the floor in a cool foyer with the first aid guy who was brilliant and our friend who is a doctor. They fussed around me for ages and threatened me with a visit to Derby hospital if I couldn't get my oxygen levels up. After giving up trying to let them get an ambulance, the first aider was happy with the fact that we would go home with our doctor friend instead of going straight home. I slept all the way home and felt grotty for the next few days. Still not right, but improving.
My page is distress inked, stencilled, and stamped with Dylusion figures cut out and coloured.

Every Inchie Monday - Chile

This week we are going to Chile for our inchie country.
When my youngest did her gap year she went to Chile to teach English. I went to see her and had a wonderful time. We went down to Patagonia, and saw condors, flamingos, dolphins and some birds I did not recognise. We went over the Andes to Argentina. Seeing the Andes was somewhere I had always wanted to go to, along with the Himalayas ( Doubt I will ever see those though)
I wanted to go to the Easter Islands, but Kevin Costner was filming over there, so no-one was allowed to go. I quite liked him before that !!
For my sewn inchie I have done the national flower (badly) The Chilean bellflower - Lapageria rose
The national animal the Huemul deer - Hippocamelus bisulcus is also on their coat of arms.

Life Book 2018

I haven't done anything on this course for months, I've been really bad. This one looked like an easy slap the ink on job, so I had a go. I quite enjoy doodling so it suited my lack of mojo this evening. I just needed to play, it suited me several times over. I also have to admit to not liking it very much. There's random and don't like it, this fits the later. Never mind it will still go in the final book, that is if I ever do enough pages to make one.
As it sort of goes with Erika's theme of Vintage or Modern on Art Journal Journey and also for Art Every Day Month
It is mainly in ink and liquid acrylics.

Thursday Journal with Neet

My choice this time with the words "You may not have lost all your marbles, but there's definitely a hole in the bag" Just love that saying, fits some people I know.
Again I used all Dylusion stamps and did an ink background this time, much happier with distress inks, they are all coming on the desert island with me, even if I can only use them on tree bark and stones.
I used watercolour pens to colour the figures, and distress inks to do all the stamping.

Journal page b

Another random journal page. I am trying to do work in long deserted journals that have been sleeping in my bookshelves for ages ( read years) I really like a theme to work on, which is why these have been abandoned. I think I will find quotes and go from there, that at least gives me a starting point.
Does anyone else have this problem???

Journal page

A quick journal page, as I couldn't settle to do any sewing. The background is inked and there are various images that were left on my work space. I did a bit of stamping  on the background and stuck on some pressed leaves and a die cut of a dragonfly.

Every Inchie Monday -- Cyprus

This week we are on the lovely island of Cyprus. I loved it, but my mum said there were too many ruins, Dad and I gave up at that point.
I have sewn the national animal of Cyprus, the muflon, and drawn the national flower the Cyclamen.

Although very small I am entering this in Art Every Day Month Day 26

I am away for the next three days and might not be able to get on the internet, so I will try to visit you when I get back.

Tag Tuesday - Tic Tac Toe

Another tag for Joan's theme of Tic Tac Toe on Tag Tuesday I used the Deli paper again for the background, and used a distress ink to make it a bit darker. This time I did the reused item, buttons and stencilling. I added an image and some flowers. This time I used the diagonal line:
Used item - Tissue paper
Buttons
Stencil

Zig Zag book for homework

This another piece of work for our homework with our mono prints. I made a stencil/mask from patterned wallpaper which gave me a textured effect., and a half pear to use as a stamp. I stamped the images at random and used the positive and negative of my mask on a gelli plate. I then cut up the prints and put them in a khadi paper accordion book and did some machine sewing on them. I used some more khadi paper for the back of the book and did more sewing on them before sticking them on the back of the book. Therefore the sewing did not show on the back of either side. The page is not pink, the photograph has made it so. The background is white.

Life Book lesson

This one is with Laura Horn and is Watercolour Meditation. The idea was to do an abstract using the images of pebbles. As my windowsills have pebbles on the I was quite happy to do this exercise.

Thursday Journal with Neet

Neet's choice this week and the words are "Honey I have heels higher than your standards"
I decided to do a double page this time using all Dylusion stamps. I didn't like my background and couldn't wait to cover some of it up. I seem to be struggling to use paints as a background at the moment and am happier with inks. It appears that I have a big blue heart in the middle.
It's snowing at the moment in not sunny Herefordshire. I have a horrible feeling it's going to be a hard Winter.
By the weekend I will be able to drive again. For those who don't know, it's not a drink driving ban ( I don't drink) It's an after op ban, just in case I have to do an emergency stop and the stitches burst ---I think.
My keyboard decided to die yesterday, so we had to go into Hereford to get a new one. I refrained from getting a proper iMac one at a ridiculous price and bought Curry's equivalent  which was £25 instead of 100's.

Tag Tuesday -- Tic Tac Toe

A tag for Joan's theme of Tic Tac Toe on Tag Tuesday.

I have chosen
Reused item: Deli paper that has been used as a mop up for another piece.
                       Image: from my stash
                       Lace:   from my stash.
I used the coloured deli paper for the background, added a few pieces of printed paper some texture paste through a stencil, and added some lace, and buttons.

Another homework piece for my course.

This is another pieced paper piece for homework. It was a mono print on glass, using thickened dyes, and scraping some of it off to make a picture. I then machine embroidered on top.

Every Inchie Monday -- Denmark

Still in Europe for this weeks inchie, Denmark. I have sewn the national flower, the Marguerite daisy. I have drawn the national bird/animal The Mute swan.

Art Every Day Month Day 19

I am struggling a bit now to do something every day on AEDM, so today i am showing you another watercolour, that sort of says landscape to me. A bit of lake on the left and blue mountains. It was just wet into wet, and the colours went where they wanted to.

Art Journal Journey - Vintage or Modern

Another vintage page for Erika's theme of Vintage or Modern on Art Journal Journey. I really like vintage as the colours are soft and I'm a vintage model myself. This one is distress ink based with various pieces of scrap papers from my stash. The quote is a Paperartsy one and I have added an image and some flowers and lace. Collage for my homework

Again one made on printed and dyed papers made on my course with Hilary Beattie, and another homework piece. The pieces were cut to form the collage and then I stitched the gelli printed leaves on top.

Art Journal Journey -- Vintage or Modern

This time I have made a modern journal page for Erika's theme of Vintage or Modern on Art Journal Journey.
I just felt like doing an abstract, with no limits to work to.
This one is called: 'The destruction of the forests'

Thursday 15 November 2018

Thursday Journal with Neet.

For our third journal page in this series the words are my choice: 'Who left the bag of idiots open" My back background is distress oxides and ink. I then used a few stencils and used distress inks through them. I finished off with some stamps. The two main figures and mushroom are Dylusions, and the idiots from my collection. It's always handy to have some idiots in your collection.

Dyan Style Flip Journal Day 14

I am also working on a flip journal this time, and this is my first completed page. I went on a workshop with Dyan where we learnt to stamp one image behind the other, and how to do borders. I will put up one with a border next time, that will push me into doing one. I haven't touched this journal for months.
I'm very late with this as I have been on a two day workshop and I couldn't get on the internet. Also the link to yesterdays entry hadn't worked.

Art Journal Journey -- Vintage or Modern

This time I have made a modern journal page for Erika's theme of Vintage or Modern on Art Journal Journey. I just felt like doing an abstract, with no limits to work to. With this one, I took some of the paint away with water to form the vase

Art Journal Journey -- Vintage or Modern

This time I have made a modern journal page for Erika's theme of Vintage or Modern on Art Journal Journey I just felt like doing an abstract, with no limits to work to. Looking at it when I had finished a title sprang to mind straight away. 'The River ran red' From that you can deduce that I watch too many detective stories, or I still have WW1 on my mind. I'll leave that to you.

We are visiting Austria this week and I have drawn the national bird the swallow, and sewn the national flower the edelweiss.

Tag Tuesday -- Poppies

For this tag  on Tag Tuesday, I have drawn and watercolored some poppies, added the words with a die cut at the base of the tag.
I have put this one on today as it is 100 years since the end of the First World War 11/11/11

Art Journal Journey - Vintage or Modern.

I'm still on Vintage for Erika's theme of Vintage or Modern on Art Journal Journey. This time I have gone for a vintage sewing theme again. I used an old sewing pattern for the background and aged it a bit with vintage photo distress ink. I used various papers and images from my sewing collection, plus a small amount of fabric on the coat hanger.
