Thursday Journal with Neet

I am in Cornwall on holiday this week, so I am hoping I can get on my blog during this time. The words this week are " So much to do, and so little desire to do it"and this will be the last page to post on my theme of vintage on Art Journal Journey. I have inked over a previous background with distress inks and stamped some sewing patterns on top. I stamped the dress form, lace and sewing machine on card and adhered them to the page. The figure is a Dylusions one. Astrid is all togged out in her favourite fifties type dress and so wants to make another one. She has the fabric, and the sewing machine. What she doesn't have is the incentive to do it, or a nice sewing pattern. Astrid also has her mum to look after as she has just come out of hospital, and her young sister living with her until their mum is well enough to have her back home. Her garden is full of weeds and she is way behind with the housework. She has just sat down with a cup of coffee and as usual is telling herself off "So much to do - so little desire to do it"

Art Journal Journey - Vintage

My hosting of Art Journal Journey is nearly finished and this is one of the last two. I have ready enjoyed going vintage for this month, it's not something I do very often now.

Art Journal Journey - Vintage

One of the last ones for this month on my vintage theme on Art Journal Journey  This one started off with a digital background that I collaged over parts of it. I added some flowers, fabric and vintage buttons.

Art Journal Journey - Vintage

Another sewing one for my vintage theme on Art Journal Journey. An old sewing pattern for the background and lots of images stamped onto the background. I stamped the dress form and button advert on separate card. I wound some thread around a card bobbin. The scissors are a die cut, as are the buttons.

Art Journal Journey - Vintage

Oh dear, I hope he answers all the letters she keeps sending him while he is abroad working. She has pressed some flower petals from the last flower he bought her and has kept the one postcard he sent after he arrived ! The page is distress inked with water sprayed on top. I stamped some corners and some French script and included a letter already to be sent off. This is another entry for my vintage theme on Art Journal Journey

Art Journal Journey - Vintage

Another vintage sewing page for my vintage theme on Art Journal Journey. A bit more colour on this one. The background is an old sewing pattern and I have added a dress form, ephemera and some stamped images. The little coat hanger is thin wood and there are fabric samples hanging on it.

Art Journal Journey - Vintage

This chap is an entomologist and has studied butterflies, moths and other insects for many years. He looks very dapper for a scientist. This is another entry for my vintage theme on Art Journal Journey. A distress inked background with several script stampings and a butterfly stamp background. I cut out several butterfly images and field labels to finish it off.

Tag Tuesday -- Use book paper

On Tag Tuesday Sandie's theme is Use book pages. For this one I have used a page from a bird book about nests and eggs. This page is about the house sparrow who seem to have had approximately four broods this year in our garden.

Paint Party Friday Week 28 Year 11

On Paint Party Friday this week I have painted a yellowhammer. We have seen a few in the garden this year, having missed them since 2014 when we moved here. It is a member of the bunting family and is usually singular, but in flocks in the winter.

Thursday Journal with Neet

This week the words to conjure with are "Hmm should I answer normally, or should I be sarcastic ?" Lucy on the right has been summoned by her friend Trudy to give her opinion on some dresses that she has her eye on. Trudy is really into vintage clothes and although she has quite a few skirts and blouses she hasn't any dresses. She has picked out four that she has fallen in love with and needs her friend Lucy to give her honest opinion on just two of them, as that's all she can afford at the moment. Lucy is now put in a spot, as what she would really like to say is that Trudy is far too plump and short to wear any of them. Oh dear thinks Lucy " hmm should I answer normally, or should I be sarcastic?" I am linking this to Art Journal Journey where my theme is vintage.

Art Journal Journey - Vintage

Off to Paris this time for my theme of vintage on Art Journal Journey  I found three cards that fitted the theme and stamped the two gentlemen. The background is distress inked with some water splashed on and then stamped with a script stamp. The bottom strip is some fabric I rust dyed.

Art Journal Journey - Vintage

Hats this time for my theme on Art Journal Journey. I don't like hats, and just can't get on with them at all. I suffer them for weddings if I have to, but other types of hats make me feel a hundred years old.  The background is distress inked with a few stampings. I then stamped the other images and added a bit of colour.

Art Journal Journey - Vintage

Another sewing page for my theme of vintage on Art Journal Journey The background is an old sewing pattern and I have added some stamping, and some lace. I found an old card of buttons to finish it off. I am still using some machine thread of my Nan's who was a seamstress. It must be well over 100 years old, and still going strong.

Art Journal Journey - Vintage

A school themed one this time for my vintage theme on Art Journal Journey. I found this certificate in my scrap box and used one of Tim Holtz paper dolls to sit on top. I stamped  an alphabet and one numbers and added a rule at the bottom.

Paint Party Friday Week 27 Year 11

On Paint Party Friday I have painted a reed bunting. Not a bird you see very often apart from in and near reed beds. but very distinctive with the strange black head and white bib for the male.

Some of my dahlias:

Spot the cat. Leo hardly fits in this pot, he's so big. Why do my cats sit on my favourite plants?

Thursday Journal with Neet

This week the words are "The only thing I ever have to add is judgement" Not an easy one this week and here I am at 10.30 pm trying to get it done. I had no idea where to start on this one, let alone make it fit with my theme of vintage on Art Journal Journey. I was looking through my limited range of magazines ( I only take a gardening one) and saw this one in a Boots chemists giveaway booklet. It looked sort of vintage to me with that very uncomfortable sofa so went with that as a starting point.  Edna has been having a go at Joe her husband for long enough about getting some jobs done around the house instead of dreaming about the cars he can't afford. As he goes out to work as well as her she thinks it only fair to share the household chores. Joe does not agree, and is more than happy to lie on the sofa looking at the three cars on his wish list. Edna on the other hand wants some help to rip off the tatty wallpaper on the wall and Joe keeps asking which car she would prefer. Her answer to that is " The only thing I ever have to add is judgement"

I am entering this in Art Journal Journal for the vintage theme.

Art Journal Journey - Vintage

There just had to be at least one for my theme of vintage on  Art Journal Journey that had Paris on it. I have gone for a romantic one this time with the use of one of the Tim Holtz paper dolls, which are proving very useful for this theme. I have added some circles on this one to fit with the theme of ' Going round in circles'on Try it on Tuesday  The background is distress inked with torn paper on the two sides

Tag Tuesday -- Recycle and re-use

Anther tag for Valerie's theme on Tag Tuesday which is recycle and re-use. The background of he tag is a piece of scrap paper from my huge pike of paper bits. There are some pictures of stamps and some real ones.. The small brown tag was once a gift tag and there are a few stampings that didn't get used for anything else.

Following Valerie's excellent example I have put it on a vintage page for my theme on Art Journal Journey. Two challenges in one post.

Art Journal Journey - Vintage

Another page for my vintage theme on Art Journal Journey. I covered the page with walnut stain Distress ink and sprayed it with water. I stained a piece of an old ledger paper with vintage photo ink and added a Tim Holtz found relatives card. Lace and washi tape at the bottom and sides, a flower, and some pocketwatch stamps used on the background to finish it off.

Tag Tuesday -- Recycle and re-use.

Valerie is hosting Tag Tuesday for this fortnight and her theme is Recycle and re-use. I have made a sea themed tag with some corrugated card with some of the top paper ripped off. There are some pieces of non slip material that you line drawers and shelves with (small squares), some plasterers scrim, a scrap of lace and some die cut seahorses from my scrap box.

Paint Party Friday Week 26 Year 11

For Paint Party Friday I have painted an adult male woodpecker. The one I did earlier was a juvenile

Thursday Journal with Neet

This week the words are "I'm starting to think I will never be old enough to know better"  I haven't made our life easy by choosing Vintage for my theme on Art Journal Journey as Neet and I always try to link with AJJ for our Dylusion Thursdays.                                                                                                          Amelia has been looking for Mr Right for a few years now and seems to manage to find some really nice steady men with good jobs and are smart and treat her well. The trouble is they never seem to last for very long, they either go abroad to work and don't write regularly, or they seem to drift off after a while and contact is lost. She was getting a bit concerned that there was something wrong with her and started to investigate their backgrounds, just in case it was them. It didn't take long to find out that some of them were married, and some all ready had lady friends. That was it, she would get a dog or cat for someone to talk to in the evenings, she was done with men. As she was eating her evening meal she said to herself "I'm starting to think I will never be old enough to know better"                                                                    I am linking this to my theme on Art Journal Journey for my Vintage theme.

Art Journal Journey - Vintage

Another page for my theme on Art Journal Journey, this time with a travel theme. The photos are from Tim Holtz and the background is walnut stain distress ink with water sprayed on it. I have used some washing tape at the top and left hand side.

Art Journal Journey - Vintage

A vintage sewing page for my theme on Art Journal Journey. I started off by covering the page with a piece of old sewing pattern paper. and adding a few stampings. Some I stamped on card and added them afterwards. I started sewing on a treadle sewing machine like that when I was a young teenager. It was my nan's and I wish I still had it. It must have disappeared in one of mum and dads moves.

Paint Party Friday Week 25 Year 11

For Paint Party Friday this week a siskin, a beautiful little bird, that we saw a lot of in Scotland. I have yet to see one here.

Thursday Journal with Neet

I have apologised to Neet about the fact that I am hosting Art Journal Journey this month and the subject I have chosen which is Vintage doesn't really go with our Thursday journal. I might just have got away with this one by using one of Dyans collage figures and then stamping some vintage labels to go on the wall at the back. The words this week are "When I told you I was normal, I might have exaggerated slightly" I then added "I collect vintage labels and stick them on the wall'  I suppose the figure itself isn't very normal, and I don't think I know anyone who sticks vintage labels on the wall.                                             I am entering this on Art Journal Journey for my theme of Vintage.

Art Journal Journey - Vintage

I am hosting Art Journal Journey for this month with vintage as my theme. It's a while since I used my vintage type stamps so I have enjoyed doing these. This page started off with me writing all over the background and then covering it with a light coat of gesso. I then added some collage. I used an old envelope and made a little journal out of scraps of paper to put inside.  Muslin scrap was adhered to the front for some texture. I made a card with the wren on the front and put a couple of quotes inside. A leaf from the garden and a gelli print of one were added with a small pocket with two found feathers inside. I added the painted tree to connect it with the leaves and birds.

Double A4 page layout.
The inside of the card with the quotes.
The small journal inside the envelope.

This set of tags are hiding under the envelope which is hinged on the left.
