Thursday Journal with `Neet

' I was going to do something today but haven't finished doing nothing from yesterday' is the Tim Holtz snarky comment for this week. I must admit that about sums up the last two days for me as well. Avril has gone out for a country walk with her dog Gordon and is looking at the distant hills with a nervous glance. There is a very stormy sky and she can see the rain in the distance. Gordon is looking at her hopefully expecting a quick walk back home. He only has very short legs and is hoping that Avril will carry him home. Well a dog can hope can't he. Avril was explaining to him that she really should go home and do some long awaited jobs, but the walk will do them good, even if they got soaked through. Gordon doesn't want to get his new coat wet, if it shrinks it will be a real painful job to peel it off him. "Yes I know you want to go home Gordon, but I can't face going home just yet. "I was going to do something today but haven't finished doing nothing from yesterday" Gordon failed to understand his human and realised limping or refusing to move would not get him very far in the popularity stakes.

Another sky for my theme on Art Journal Journey. A cloudy sky with a painted background and collaged landscape. The clouds are made from tissue paper and the tree is a die cut.

Thursday Journal with Neet

We are now on a new list of Tim Holtz snarky sayings and the first one is 'To be honest, I'm just winging it...life, motherhood, my eye liner...everything.  Fay has met up with her school friend Fran and they are having a walk in the sunshine, it has been so wet the last few weeks, it was lovely to get out without raincoats and umbrellas. Fay has been taking close look at Fran and had asked her how she managed to raise a family, keep herself looking smart all the time and have time to indulge in a few of her hobbies as well. "It took me nearly all day to do my hair with all the fancy colours and ribbons" said Fay. Fran was so tempted to ask her why she bothered as she thought it looked ridiculous, but refrained from doing so. " To be honest, I'm just winging it...life. motherhood, my eye liner...everything replied Fran. " I think you take life too seriously, you need to relax and see what happens' said Fran. Fay is not convinced.

Art Journal Journey - Above us only sky

A  cut off scan, I now notice the t off the end of light on the saying. A pastel painting this time of the Northern lights - Aurora Borealis. We saw them when we lived in The Highlands of Scotland, and would love to see them again.

Art Journal Journey - Above us only skies

For my theme on Art Journal Journey, a very simple one this time, collaged pictures of clouds on a painted background, and a saying

Thursday Journal with Neet

The words this week are 'I admit my weirdness is above the national average, but I'm comfortable with that' Julia has gone round to see her best friend Amy, who still lives with her parents. Amy's saving up for her own flat, but was still quite a long way away from her dream place. Julia supposed it made sense, but didn't really appeal to Julia who hadn't lived with her parents since she had finished her secretarial course. When she arrived at Amy's parents house her mum immediately said  "Amy's in the back garden lying on the grass" and with this statement her eyes rolled up and she gave Julia that 'I give up look'  Sure enough there was Amy lying on the grass gazing at the sky. "What on earth are you doing'?" asked Julia. "I'm looking at the clouds and seeing different shapes and animals, then I make up a story about them" Seeing the look on Julia's face, Amy immediately said "I admit my weirdness is above the national average, but I'm comfortable with that"

The words this week are 'I'm just a girl standing in front of a salad, asking it to be a donut' Judy has be persuaded (dragged) by  her friend Grace to the local Spring fare. It's beautiful bright day with a nearly cloudless blue sky, and Grace who is very slim and food conscious has steered Judy towards the food area, where the local ladies have made wonderful spread of healthy looking food. Grace had managed to get Judy to look the other way when they were approaching the fudge stall by taking her via the small animal enclosure, knowing that Judy wouldn’t be able to resist stroking the rabbits. Further on, Judy was not amused to see a table full of salads and kept walking to the very end of the long table to find something that suited her, the obvious answer was hard luck, it was all various forms of salad. Grace could see Judy's face and asked what was wrong. "I'm a girl standing in front of a salad and asking it to be a donut" replied Judy "I don't like rabbit food and I will never be slim like you" "No, you eat too many rubbish foods and sweets, of course you won't, but you really should try and eat healthily, you will feel much better" replied Grace.

Art Journal Journey - Above us only skies

A double journal page for my theme of 'Above us only stars on Art Journal Journey. A full moon over a cityscape. A painted and collaged background using up scraps from my stash of bits, including textured wall paper and cardboard. I painted the moon and used a white Posca pen for the stars

Art Journal Journey - Above us only skies

I am hosting Art Journal Journey this month with the theme of Above us only skies. A line from a Beatles song Imagine. These can be only type of sky, and I am starting off with a night sky with a barn owl flying across it. I collaged the page and then painted it. The owl was from a magazine, and a drew a tree on the left and spattered white paint to finish off.

Thursday Journal with Neet

For our last page on Thursday journal using Jo's theme of Nature on Art Journal Journey, our words are 'Not only does my mind wander... sometimes it walks off completely'  Ruth has been having a one sided conversation with her two cats, Smudge and Grumps, and as she isn't getting any response from them, apart from a huge frown from Grumps, her mind starts to wander. 'Should I get another cat from the rescue place to keep the two she has company and cheer Grumps up a bit. Will it really cheer him up or make him worse, it's debatable. These two are getting old so a kitten would keep them on the toes (paws) and make them more playful, or would they want to chase it out of their territory. Ruths mind then takes a long walk in another direction, how about a nice little dog, like a Dachshund. They only have short legs so it wouldn't be any bigger than the cats. It would certainly go a long way in keeping them in order, and give her some exercise as she would have to take it for a walk ( a short one ) every day, or do you have to take them for two walks a day, and in the rain and snow, but not deep snow as they only have short legs. Ruth decided to stop thinking and just stick with Smudge and Grumps and get her mind back in order.

Thursday Journal with Neet

Tim Holtz snarky comment this week is  'People think I'm shy, but I really just have no interest in talking to idiots' To tie this in with Jo's theme of Nature on Art Journal Journey, I have the set the scene outdoors in Hazels local park. Hazel is taking her dog Blake to play with his favourite tennis ball as he will have plenty of room to run around and hopefully be too tired to do anything but sleep in the afternoon while Hazel gets down to mark her classes test papers. Hazel was really hoping that she had picked a time when the park was virtually empty of people who were wanting to stop and chat and tell her how wonderful their dogs are and how their barking was annoying their silly neighbours. The list went on and Hazel  was going to do her best to avoid them, she had more important things to think about. As she managed to get Blake to bring the ball back to her she saw on the pathway in front of them coming towards them. one of the most annoying of the people she wanted to avoid, so she threw the ball as far as she could into a large clumps of trees and carefully hid behind the largest tree trunk she could find. She knew it was a bit mean, but as she explained to Blake, "people think I'm shy, but I really just have no interest in talking to idiots" Blake tilted his head to one, hadn't clue what she said and wondered why she wasn't throwing his ball.

Thursday Journal with Neet.

The words this week are 'I'm not great on advice. May I interest you in a sarcastic comment' Not an easy one to tie in with Jo's theme of Nature on Art Journal Journey, but as I keep telling Neet, it's a challenge. Fiona had suggested to her friend Amy that it would make a nice change to go for a walk in the forest instead of a local park, as her dog Dylan could do with a good run without being on a lead. Amy was quite happy with this and having been given enough notice she had taken the rash decision to dye her top green and paint her boots with shoe paint. She thought it would look just right for a walk amongst the trees. Not being very good at practical things the top had turned out really blotchy and the boots were all stripes instead of a nice smooth finish. It was now too late to do anything about it so off she went to meet up with Fiona. As soon as she saw her she knew Fiona was going to say something. After a brief hello, Fiona said "I'm not great on advice. May I interest you in a sarcastic comment ?" Amy knew it was no good saying no so she laughed and asked Fiona what the sarcastic comment was. Fiona had it all ready" I said a walk in the forest not to come disguised as one" Amy was very tempted to say that Fiona's shoes did not look like sensible attire for a walk in the forest, but she kept quiet

"Been there, done that. Been there several times, because I apparently I never learn'  This is the Tim Holtz snarky comment for this week, and to tie them into Jo's theme of Nature on Art Journal Journey, I have added several cats. Jenna has just received a phone call from her cousin Inga whom she hasn't seen for months. Inga knew that Jenna had a kitten from the Cat's Protection charity and wanted to know about her experience with them. Jenna told her that they were great and very caring, and she supported them with regular contributions to help them look after and feed all the cats in their care. The only problem was with herself. "I've been there, done that. been there several times because apparently I never learn" Inga asked what she meant, and Inga then explained that she now had five cats, because she couldn't resist going one more time and then another. Sounds a bit like us, we ended up with five feral cats from them when we lived in Wales, only one left now.

Thursday Journal with Neet

The words we have this week to start our Thursday Journal with and to link to Jo's theme of Nature on Art Journal Journey are, 'Coffee has given me unrealistic expectations of productivity'  Freya has a list of jobs to do before she allows herself a shopping trip in the afternoon, and her morning usually starts off with her cat Henry winding round her legs trying to get her in the direction of his feeding bowl. This morning though she wants to feed the birds first so they get a chance of not being stalked by Henry. One of them has become very tame and Henry looks on with a mixture of jealousy and hunger. Then Henry gets fed and Freya has a cup of coffee. The ironing is the next on the list, followed by the vacuuming, the kitchen sink to clear of dishes and then to strip the bed so it gets washed while she is out. The list gets longer so Freya has another cup of coffee and then does the ironing. By this time she is too tired to do any more and says to Henry who really isn't listening "Coffee has given me unrealistic expectations of productivity. I will put the sheets in the washer though before I have another cup of coffee.

Thursday journal with Neet

The last week for Neet's theme of 'In gear’  on Art Journal Journey and this week the saying is 'Of course I talk to myself, sometimes I need an expert opinion.' Ruth was talking to her older sister about a forthcoming event at her youth club. Her sister Judith was a bit above herself, considered that at the age of eighteen she was grown up and could have the only right opinion about everything, even if it was not popular. Ruth wasn't going to ask her any questions that would start of an argument about who was right so just kept it to a general chat about the event that the club was holding for a local charity. The competition for this month was for the most unusual hat and Ruth had made her own out of scraps of things in her craft room, and it hadn't cost her a penny. She was really pleased with it, but didn't really mind if she didn't win, it had been fun to make. "  I suppose you want me to give my opinion about your hat for the competition" asked Judith. In the meantime Ruth had been chatting away to herself, which prompted Judith to ask if Ruth was talking to her or to herself. Ruth's immediate answer was " Of course I talk to myself...sometimes I need an expert opinion" In other words Ruth had no confidence in Judiths crafting abilities at all, and didn't want to know what she thought of it.

Thursday Journal with Neet

The words this week from Tim Holtz snarky sayings is : 'You drink too much. You have questionable morals. You're everything I ever wanted in a friend' I will be linking this to Neet's theme of In gear on Art Journal Journey. Jenny has decided to go to a night club in town that  she knows her parents would not approve of, and she is relying on the fact that what they don't know won't worry them.  Jenny's idea of not worrying them is not really based on anything she has experienced so far, and she knows that her best friend Lexi would not tell them. She is in her gear of shorts, leggings and tops and is all set to go. She was hoping that her friend Lexi would go with her, but looking at the clothes Lexi has on are definitely not club gear, they are more like a shopping trip or outing. "I think you should go back and change"suggested Jenny, "you will be really embarrassed going in that" "It's you that is an embarrassment to me" said Lexi " You drink too much. You have questionable morals. You are everything I ever wanted in a friend, come on let's go, I'm looking forward to it. Mum and dad are out, so you can come with me and I'll put some proper  Club gear on".

Thursday Journal with Neet

For Neet's theme of 'In gear' on Art Journal Journey I have included a car this week. The words to go with the illustration are Tim Holtz snarky comment of 'We'll be best friends forever, because you know too much' Hazel has  gone round to see her best friend Millie to see what they were going to do at the weekend. Hazel had just told Millie that she had failed her car test for the second time, but wasn't going to admit it to her parents, who hadn't realised that she had applied to take it again. Millie had passed hers on the first attempt and had bought herself a small economical car to drive around locally, she hadn't braved the motorway yet. Hazel knew that Millie had a secret about driving. Millie had driven her dads vintage car without permission, and Hazel had been with her, there was a picture of it on the wall. Luckily it had come back in one piece and the deed had gone un-noticed. The two girls had also been going to some clubs in town that they knew their parents would not be happy about. Although Hazel was a bit annoyed that Millie had passed her test, they remained friends, and Millies secrets were worse than Hazels, so she felt that her secrets were safe with Millie. Millie sensing that Hazel was thinking along those lines said " We'll be best friends forever because you know too much"

Tag Tuesday - Colours of Autumn

Valerie has set the the theme of Colours of Autumn on Tag Tuesday. I love the rich colours of Autumn and have added some real elements to my tag.

Thursday 5 October 2023

Thursday Journal with Neet

Neet is hosting Art Journal Journey this month, so I will linking this to her theme of 'In Gear.' The words to try to incorporate into this weeks are 'You smell like a drama and a headache, please get away from me.' Delia has gone round to her cousin Stephanie's flat to have a good moan about her colleagues at work. When she gets there, Stephanie is lounging on the floor surrounded by what looks like gears and cogs, there is also some sort of contraption on Stephanie's head. The wall has a freeze of these things and then she notices that Steph has some as earrings as well as the hair net or hat, or whatever it is on her head. Delia is not sure whether to start on her colleague grumbles or to tell Steph that she looks like an idiot and isn't it time this phase of her whacky life was over. Delia has always been very strait laced in her likes and dislikes and steampunk is not on the list of likes. Stephanie sees that for once Delia is lost for words and quickly takes the advantage. "You smell like a drama and a headache, please get away from me" Obviously not the day to tell her cousin what she thinks, Delia has a very quick cup of tea and goes home.

Tag Tuesday - Silhouettes

Sandie has taken over from Michele whose theme this is, she went on holiday and forgot about it. Sounds like me at the moment. Silhouettes is the theme on Tag Tuesday and I have made two very quick ones. I don't know where the time goes. We are putting our house on the market next month and I am frantically trying to tidy a neglected garden and sort my very large studio out. There is no way I will get one as large as this and will probably end up in a spare bedroom. So I am throwing stuff out and filling up the local charity shops.

Thursday Journal with Neet.

The words this week are "Wrinkled was not one of the things I wanted to be when I grew up" Grace was looking after her Granddaughter Millie who was convinced that when she grew up she would work at a zoo. Millie was obsessed with animals and had spent all morning trying to get her Grandmas cat to obey commands. It was of course a waste of time, Leo was too set in his ways and didn't take kindly to being told what to do. Millie explained to Grace that she was set on working with animals when she grew up, so Grace said that perhaps being a vet would be a better idea. Millie listened quietly but the insisted that as vets here didn't deal with big cats so the zoo was was her dream job. " What did you want to be when you grew up Grandma?" asked Millie. " Thinking back to the dreams she had had as a young woman Grace said "Wrinkled was not one of the things I wanted to be when I grew up, but I did have a very satisfying job as a school teacher. She hoped Millie would change her mind and not work with big cats  or anything else dangerous.

Thursday Journal with Neet

The words this week are 'When I ask for directions, please do not mention words like "East" this saying is very appropriate for me as when I ask for directions, the points of the compass are sometimes placed strategically in the answer. It doesn't help when you don't actually know which direction you are pointing in in the first place. Jessica has managed to get lost in the estates around her town and has no idea how to get out of it, or how to find the actual house she is looking for. She doesn't have satellite navigation in her car, and is not that good at reading maps, it's probably out of date anyway, as this is a huge new estate. As she drives slowly along a quiet road she sees a lady talking to her two cats in the garden. She stops, and  says how cute the cats are, even though she doesn't actually like cats.  The cat lady is flattered that someone has actually said they like Ginger and Henry as her neighbours hate them as they are bird lovers, and the two cats are often seen stalking the birds and getting shooed away. After a chat about her furry friends she asked if Jessica wanted some help as she looked rather lost. "Yes I am lost, but when I ask for directions, please do not use words like "East" Jessica was actually on the wrong side of the estate and the cat lady, sensing that loads of turn rights and lefts was not going to help went to fetch a pencil and paper and drew Jessica a simple map. Jessica was very grateful and after saying thank you and giving the cats a quick stroke she drove away feeling very confident.

'So when is this old enough to know better supposed to kick in ? are the snarky words for this week. Grace  is having a cup of tea, and her daughter Annie is feeling somewhat rebellious as her mum won't let her go out with her girl friends on a night out in town. I'm sorry Annie, but I will not feel happy with you in town with girls I don't know, they are much older than you, so you will have to wait until you are old enough' That's not fair Mum, you know how sensible I am" "Really said Grace, no-one would believe it as you seem to have a tea cosy on your head !" It wasn’t a tea cosy, it was a hat Annie had knitted herself and her mums remark didn’t help Annie feel any better about not being able to go out with her friends. In a rather angry voice and before she really lost her temper Annie said “ So when is this old enough to know better supposed go kick in ?” “ Obviously not yet” was all Annie heard as she flounced out of the room.              I am linking this to Elle theme of Book, cats, tea on Art Journal Journey

I am on holiday in Wales this week, and luckily I had taken a few animal stampings with me so I am able to enter this with Elle’s new theme.  The saying this week is 'From a procrastination standpoint, today has been wildly successful' Astrid  has a load of jobs to do that would need an A3 size piece of paper to list them on. It's the weekend and she really doesn't know where to start. At the top would be sensible, but sensible was not how she felt today. Right at the bottom of the list was to empty the cats litter tray, and let them out for a play in the garden. Anita has had to keep them in the house since the new neighbours have an awful cat who attacked both her cats Henry and Abigail. As they would only go out with her it meant that Astrid had to stop reading her book and go out in the garden with them. Astrid knew if she did that she would see a load of weeds that needed pulling up. One job seems to lead to another and at the moment Astrid couldn’t be bothered doing anything. By late afternoon the cats were giving her their really fed up looks and Astrid said to them “ well you two, from a procrastination standpoint today has been wildly successful”

This weeks snarky comment is 'I'd love to talk but I'm in a hurry to get home so I can be alone' Jill had gone round to see her friend Angela who had just come back from a holiday in Greece. Angela couldn’t wait to tell Jill about her adventures and all the wonderful things she had brought back. She started off by explaining about all the historic ruins she had seen, and Jill was beginning to loose concentration. As much as she liked history and was really happy that her friend had had a lovely holiday, she had heard enough for one day. As Jill edged towards the door her brain was frantically trying to think of a way to stop the history lesson before the 'look what I brought back' started. Suddenly without thinking Jill said  "I'm so pleased you had such a lovely holiday Angela, and I'd love to talk but I'm in a hurry to get home so I can be alone" With that and a very puzzled look from Angela Jill walked out of the door. On her way home she started to think how she would explain her actions to Angela when they next met.

' I didn't see anyone today so I'm wearing this again tomorrow.' These are the words from Tim Holtz snarky comments for this week. Samantha, has been dreaming about going to Paris for years and at the weekend she will be on the way there with her boyfriend Paul. There was only three days to go and she had been sorting out her clothes and packing them carefully so they didn’t crease too much. When Samantha went away she always like to get the house clean and tidy and as far as possible most of the laundry done and put away. As she sat there thinking through everything she needed to take, and worrying about all the other things she had to do she realised that she hadn’t seen anyone all day. Her mother hadn’t been or phoned which was unusual and Paul was away with work, he would phone later for a chat. She was quite pleased in a way and her thoughts turned to thinking, I haven’t seen anyone today so I can wear this again tomorrow. This would cut the washing down a bit which Samantha was very pleased about.

The words this week are 'Nothing screws up your Friday like realising it's only Tuesday' Gosh that sounds familiar, we never know what day it is. Annette has gone round to see her friend Margaret and immediately sits on the floor and starts telling Margaret all about the holiday she is going on next Saturday to Benidorm in Spain. Annette can't think of anywhere worse to go as she doesn't like crowds of people and commercial resorts. "Why don't you just go to Blackpool and save all that travel and money. Do you really prefer to see all those awful buildings along the beach and end up with loads of people getting drunk and being noisy ?" said Margaret " I like fun places and I am packed already" said Annette. "Why have you packed so early" asked Margaret. "Because I forget what day it was that's why, and nothing screws up your Friday like realising it's only Tuesday" said Annette. Margaret had even found two posters to illustrate how much nicer Blackpool looked, but Annette was not to be persuaded.

Wanting to keep the peace Susie agreed and then added " I hope we don't go near any fields today, as you look like a field with flowers in with that outfit, I won't be able to see you"                                                                                        "I'm dressed in green as it's Irelands colour and that was not a nice thing to say" said Delia                  Susie realising that she was being a bit mean said " I try to be a nice person but sometimes  my mouth doesn't cooperate.

Thursday Journal with Neet.

I am just home from a week in Norfolk with my son, youngest daughter and three grandchildren. I didn't have time to do it before we went so I am trying to catch up now. To link with Chris (Pearshape crafting) on Art Journal Journey with the theme of 'Where in the world'  A very short entry this week.

I have the twins, Joanne and Trudy in the duty free shop at the airport on the Isle of Capri. Trudy has told her sister that she is off to find a new perfume to impress her boyfriend, and Joanne is off to the liquor store. " you drink too much" said Trudy, "why don't you buy some perfume or clothes instead"  "Huh, why would I want to do that" said Joanne. "Nothing says I mean business like using cart at the liquor store" So they went their separate ways and met later in the departure lounge, Joanne weighed down with the weight of the bottles and Trudy with  a very small box that fitted easily into her handbag.

' Some days I rely heavily on coffee and my ability to ignore reality' are the words from Tim Holtz snarky sayings for this week. We are on a new list so will give us some more scope for our stories. As I am linking this to Alisons theme of 'Come fly with me on Art Journal Journey this month, I have some insects flying around the room. As I will be away next week I doubt whether I will be able to link it to the new theme as I have no idea what it will be. I will do the journal page but might be unable to link it to the theme.

Sheila and her friend Jenny are at her new flat, and Jenny is finding it difficult to take in the fact that Sheila has hardly done a thing since she moved in, the place was a mess. Lots of boxes stacked in various rooms and no visible sign of food to eat. The whole place now needed a clean and sort out. Jenny had offered to help but Sheila didn't seem overly bothered about the fact that there were insects flying around the room and a cat who didn't seem very bothered either. Jenny tried tactfully as she could to try and get Sheila to do something but the only response she received was Sheila saying "Some days I rely heavily on coffee and my ability to ignore reality. That was obviously one of those days.

This story was vaguely based on the fact that I have spent the last six days helping my youngest daughter do a self move to their new house, with professional help to just move the furniture. I don't want to see bubble wrap and boxes for a while. The fact that she is not very organised left a lot for me to do, I have moved so many times that I am virtually a professional. ( That's what she was telling the neighbours)

Michele's theme on Tag Tuesday is Mermaids/Merpeople and I have made one with a somewhat buxom mermaid. I have used die cots and some texture on the base.

Thursday Journal with Neet

A rushed journal page this week, last minute again. The words this week are 'Listen before I had my coffee I didn't know how awesome I was going to be today either' Grace was telling her friend Anne how she had been planting her garden to encourage the bees and butterflies. It was all doing so well and she hadn't realised how many different types of bees there were, and had been studying them on the internet. She was so thrilled that she was going try to draw some of the different types. After listening to her for what seemed like an hour,  Anne said " Listen before I had my coffee I didn't know how awesome I was going to be either"

The words this time are 'I'm not childish, you're just a big doody head' Not sure what a doody head is but I assume is someones who is annoying. Biddy certainly is. She and her little sister are going on holiday with their parents and have been told by their mum to wear something sensible for the trip to the holiday destination. Always one to do what she wanted and wear things that are a bit way out Biddy had gone to Amy's room to see if she was ready. Seeing the outfit Biddy was wearing she started telling her just what she thought of her choice, and saying that they should do as their mother said. Biddy retaliated and said she was being childish and told her to be herself and not do what everyone else thought she should do. " I'm not childish, you're just a big doody head" said Amy.

Alisons theme on Art Journal Journey is 'Come fly with me' so I have put some butterflies on the wall of Amy's room.

The saying this week is 'Today was going great until...people. Tom, Missy, and their daughter Kitty were in their back garden keeping an eye on two little blue birds that were a potential dinner item. They were trying to teach Kitty how to sneak up on the birds and then make a quick pounce. Kitty was doing really well and they were very proud of her. Unfortunately next door lived Butch a very miserable cat who was spoilt rotten by his owners. The neighbours garden was very dark, so sometimes they couldn't see where he was and Kitty was frightened of him. This particular day he had been hiding and they couldn't tell if he was outside or not. All of a sudden, just as Kitty was about to pounce on one of the birds, Butch's owner shouted for him to go in for his supper which was salmon today. The birds were frightened by the loud voice and flew away out of reach. Well said Missy "today was going great until...people" It looks a like cat biscuits for their family today.

'I'm not arguing, I'm explaining why I'm right' are the words this week. I started off with a Distress inked background and I used a number stencil on top. Barbara has been having an ongoing discussion with her friend Margaret about the best way to help their five year old children cope with numbers at school. Ever since the children had been toddlers they had both taught them how to count from one upwards with the use of games and story books. Now they had both started school the adding up and taking away was the next step. Margaret had been happy to just keep on with the games and to start with the easy ones. Barbara was all for getting stuck in with the pencil and paper and actually giving them little sums to do, as this way they would get used to writing the numbers down and thinking about it more, she thought playing games at that age was silly. so they sat down with a cup of tea and started to discuss it. Eventually this turned into an argument and before it became too heated Barbara said "I'm not arguing, I'm explaining why I'm right. at this point they agreed to differ.

Thursday Journal with Neet.

The words this week are 'Sorry I'm late, I didn't want to come' Penny was having a party and had invited all her friends including her cousin Angela. Angela had known about this party for a while and knew exactly what form it was going to take. Apparently it was all about numbers. Everyone was given a puzzle which resulted in a number that corresponded to another one in the room. Once you had worked out your number you had to take a certain number away from it, and that ended up with your partner for the evening. Of course having found out the number you then needed to find the person whose number that was, and this had to be done quietly, no shouting out 'come here number ? that would be too easy'. Angela thought this was all bordering on crazy but felt she had to turn up. When Angela turned up late at her cousins flat and saw the crowds of people there, she so wanted to go home. Her cousin greeted her with that, trust you to be late look. It was no good as soon as Angela stepped into the hall, she said "Sorry I'm late, I didn't want to come"
