Every Inchie Monday -- Turkey

I really hope that these will be the last turkeys I ever have to draw or sew, what a nightmare. The fact that they are ugly and I don't like eating them didn't help. I came down to my studio yesterday to get on with them and ended up making some Christmas cards instead. The fact that I didn't want to make cards either shows how reluctant I was do do these turkeys. The top stampbord one is the original. and as I didn't think it looked like a turkey I then altered the bottom bit of it and there you go another one that doesn't look like a turkey. As I only have four pieces of stampbord left I can't do another one.

We had the grandchildren here for the weekend, and I helped them make Christmas cards. That sort of made me realise that I only had six left over from last year, and I really should make an effort.
All the kids wanted to do was use the rubber stamps, and get covered in ink while they were about it. So I left everything out and did some stampings myself, and yes I ended up all inky as well.

They are incredibly ugly birds aren't they and not even a pleasant call to endear them...you did well with your samples however, and I especially like your stitched one.
I don't enjoy eating turkey, either. Just as well I don't live in America! As Christmas is hot here we don't eat it then either, I have cooked a couple during my life time but find them a tad difficult...there are far more succulent birds that cook with far less fussing...a rafter of about fifteen turkeys once walked through our property one morning which I carefully herded into the orchard, hoping to find and contact their owner to come and collect them. They simply barged their way out through the fence on the other side and walked off crossly gobbling to each other and dissipated through our hawthorn hedge into the distance...I later found out from a neighbour that they had no home base but were just a roaming group of escapees that had wandered the area for years...that has been my only experience with them, although the children all delighted in their horrid gobbling noise and used it to tease me for months after! They all say turkey to me - you judge yourself too harshly. How lovely to have an inky session with your grandchildren. They must love visiting you.

I think you did an awesome job of making an unattractive bird look beautiful!

Even though they are ugly birds, yours are very attractive. Better parentage I suppose, lol!

They all look like turkey to me! I personally prefer to see the wild ones that we sometimes see when we are visiting the family in Maine than the ones that turn up on ones plate lol.

I would win a prize if I had to guess what they were, look like turkeys to me! Ugly they sure are! Considering this is all on an inch then I think they are great, bravo!

Sounds like you had a lovely time with the grand kiddies even if you weren’t expecting to!! Agree with you re turkeys - don’t like the taste - we always have something different and as you say not a very aesthetic bird!!
